What's the Difference Between a Rug and a Carpet?

“Rug” and “carpet” are two different terms which are usually used interchangeably. In some countries, the two words are the same and have no difference, however in some other places these are totally two different terms. In Australia, a carpet is usually a flooring which is installed from wall to wall., and rugs cover only a little spot; in short, they're area specific. But in India, “carpet” and “rug” are simply utilized to denote a covering over the floor. When comparing these two, a rug is smaller than carpet. It can be stated that any piece of floor covering which comes under 40 sq ft are known as rugs and the ones bigger than this are carpets.

A carpet is completely connected to the floors and cannot be taken out that simply. On the other hand, a rug is area specific, covering only a small location, and may be removed quickly. A rug can be easily grabbed from one location to another. If a person wishes to get the rug placed in a different room, it will be possible. In the case of carpet, this is not possible. If a person moves, he could easily transport rugs although not so with carpets. A rug can be used for a centerpiece, hung on wall surfaces, as a bed rug or foot rug. Not like a carpet, a rug comes in a lot of patterns and styles. As carpets are extremely large, it can be hard to clean them. Cleaning rugs, however, is very easy. As rugs are available in various styles and patterns, rugs cost more compared to carpets. It can be seen that rugs are treasured by people and are even passed from one generation to another.
When compared to
rugs, carpets are difficult counterparts. They can be very tough and stain resistant. Carpets are also available in lots of styles, colours and patterns. When talking about thickness, a carpet is thicker than rugs. Just as the thickness goes up, a carpet becomes more elegant, and there is an amazing feeling when walking on it.
Another thing
is that a carpet can easily wear out a lot faster than rugs. If a rug fades away, it may be replaced easily. Rugs can slide and slip easily, but a double-stick or rug pad can be used to prevent it. If carpets get worn, the only alternative would be to change the whole material. You may want to check out related articles by Floorwise:
