National Construction Code: The New Building Code of Australia

National Construction Code: The New Building Code of Australia

Starting May 1, 2011, the BCA or Building Code of Australia will be called the National Construction Code (NCC). Along with this, there will be some important changes regarding stair nosing/stair treads.

Among the most significant factors are the following:
1. A solid band of colour will be required with a depth of 50-75mm across the tread together with 30% contrast.
2. The contrasting strip shall be not more than 15mm back from the tread.
3. The turn down at the front face shall be no longer than 10mm.

The above-mentioned changes with the code render a great deal of existing products on the market non-compliant.
