Laying a carpet is both a simple and difficult job. Simple because there are now carpet tiles available in the market. It obviously makes the job easier. However, it can also be difficult. It can be a tough job when you don't know what to do. So for the benefit of those who'd like to do the installation themselves, then here are some basic tips on how to lay carpet tiles.
1) Preparing your floor
Carpet tiles may be installed without the need of adhesive but to fix the tiles and stop movement installations can be done by using a light adhesive that is readily available from carpet tile vendors. It will make sure that the tiles are locked in place but could be easily removed and changed when necessary. Like all other materials, carpet tiles expand and contract as the temperature varies. To guarantee a trouble-free installation, we highly recommend unpacking and laying the tiles freely on the ground of the space where they are to be installed. They must be left this way for a day for them to become adjusted to the room's conditions. Vacuum the space to make sure that the area is clean. Furthermore ensure the surface is clear of oil and grease as well as any solvents. When laying on a solid floor, installing a damp proof membrane is recommended.
2) Installing the carpet tiles
At the back of the carpet tile there has to be arrows that show the natural lay of the carpet. Since the shade can occasionally differ considerably from batch to batch, installing the tiles in various directions attracts less focus on this built in production problem. If you happen to utilize patterned tiles or produce a checkered design impact, installing the tiles within the same direction is okay. Now when you start to put the carpet tiles, begin from the center of the area and run in an outward direction to each wall. Be sure each tile is tightly fitted to another and parallel. Once you get to the wall you might be having a space that may look unpleasant, therefore when you transfer the center tile a bit and repeat the procedure until finally you've got an even gap all over the area this can give you a much better look. Lay the tiles firmly and squarely to the nearby tiles, ensuring you don't trap any carpet pile in between each joint. Install the tiles that should be cut finally.
3) Trimming the carpet tiles
You might want to cut the carpet tiles that are close to the side of the walls or around obstacles like fitted cabinets and so on. First of all replace the carpet tile closest to the wall using the carpet tile which has to be trimmed. Now put the carpet tile you've lifted against the wall securely and use as a template. Draw a line using a pencil across the edge of this tile that is farthest from the wall, it will then be your cutting line. Work with an extra tile as a firm base to cut the tile. A good knife and steel ruler help provide neat cut. Lastly, install the cut tile and do this again throughout the area.
