Product Release: Armstrong Eco-Terrazz "End of Life Vinyl Tile"

Eco-Terrazz manufactured in Australia by Armstrong World Industries incorporates end-of-life vinyl tile into new vinyl flooring.

Launched in September 2011, Armstrong Eco-Terrazz vinyl composition tile (VCT), is made with 60 percent recycled / reused content sourced mainly from Australian supermarkets and 40 percent virgin raw material. That adds up to a 100 percent win for the environment!

Mike Jenkins, vice president -- AFP Southern Asia/Pacific, says the product line is possibly the most eco-friendly VCT ever launched. He explains, “This is the most exciting Australian resilient flooring development in years. It opens up a whole new genre of flooring that turns old resilient floors into new flooring time and time again. Polyvinyl chloride, a major component of the floor, doesn’t degrade over time, so it’s open to endless recycling without impinging on flooring performance.”

This newest addition to our popular Excelon VCT family can be used alone or in combination with other Australian Excelon tile products, having the same size, thickness, installation method and maintenance recommendations. The six-color palette is targeted for commercial or residential applications.

Eco Terrazz contains:

  • end-of-life flooring removed primarily from supermarkets and department stores;
  • internal post-industrial waste (in-process and post-process) from our manufacturing process such as sample returns, tile trim, discontinued products and imperfect products; and
  • limestone, an abundant natural resource.
Eco Terrazz will be produced as recycled tile becomes available at our Thomastown, Melbourne facility. Initially released to our Asia Pacific export market, the product will shortly be made available to a broader market as the supply of recycled flooring becomes more consistent.
